Quest

Villager Species: Elephant

Yua Matsuo is a young human woman living in Japan in UV-00282. She is the vessel for the First Dawn.

She has shoulder-length black hair, which she keeps loose and limp, with a teal headband holding her bangs in place. Her eyes are a dark gray, and she wears oval-shaped bright teal glasses, which she can't see without. Her skin is tanned, and she has a slightly pointed face, a small nose, and keeps her bangs neatly parted. She wears a white button-up shirt under a dark magenta cardigan, with golden detailing on the front. Under this, she wears a light blue-green skirt, darker teal leggings, and faded purple sneakers.

Her username online is 'nosy nancy', a nickname she doesn't mind at all - her reputation precedes her. She types in lowercase, with some punctuation, and has a tendency to type a stream of thoughts as they come. Her icon is a magenta magnifying glass.

In December of 2020, Yua's friend group decide to play a game to celebrate a birthday, which leads to the events of PROLEGOMENON. She's the last player into the game, and she has considerable abilities within it, as her biggest hobby is gamebreaking.

PERSONALITY

Yua's powers and personality both lead her to keep herself well removed from visibility from the audience, which causes a bit of difficulty when it comes to talking about what kind of person she is. She revels in being a mystery to others, though sometimes she feeds too far into this complex and becomes unpredictable, even to herself. She doesn't like to talk about herself very much, preferring her privacy and finding other ways to bond with her friends. She does do her best to give off a good impression, despite how little she shares, since she wants people to feel like they can come to her when they need to talk. Yua is very observant, and is able to pick apart arguments before they even start.

Of course, this level of attention to detail leads her to coming off as a bit of a control freak, and she doesn't really mind the label either. Yua doesn't intend to control other people, and all she's really looking for is to be heard - to have her opinions known before all hell breaks loose. She has a fondness of mystery stories, and has read every Nancy Drew book at least a hundred times each at this point. She approaches a lot of things in life like they're a puzzle for her to unravel.

She experiences some degree of psychosis, although this isn't something she acknowledges to other people beyond Jesse Lakatos, her best friend and crush. Yua's a talented young woman who picks apart games for a living, doing quality assurance testing for bugs and glitches.

TIMELINE

Pre-PROLEGOMENON

Yua's the older of a set of twins when she's born in early October of 2001, though due to complications her twin doesn't survive. She's raised by two unhappy parents who wind up divorcing not long after her birth, leading to her being raised two very different ways on and off. Yua learns quickly that she's less of a daughter and more of a pawn to get at the other parent to them, and she plays her role perfectly to minimize damages to herself.

As she grows older, she finds a deep interest in learning how computer programs work, and why they do what they do when they break. At first it's limited to just computers, but it expands to video games as well, where she starts her Internet presence into. She's enamoured by creepypastas, however ameteurishly written, and she really enjoys looking at broken games and figuring out what happened to the code to get there.

She decides to play an indie game she finds online one day, broadcasting her dissection of the thing to her small but loyal follower base. The creator - Cherry Thaxton - reaches out after this gets to be very popular, overshadowing the success of the game itself. At first, she figures Cherry will be mad about it, like most creators who talk to her are. However, she finds that Cherry's actually interested in talking to her more, and learning from the mistakes she pointed out in mew's code. Yua's added to the group chat not long after, meeting Jesse and others.

RELATIONSHIPS

Jesse Lakatos

These two got along very well almost immediately upon meeting, despite how different they are from each other. Jesse is Yua's closest friend in the group, and she would go to the ends of the earth for them. She finds their view of the world to be intrigueing, and subconsciously strives to make them proud of her. She feels like they are the only person alive who truly knows her.

They spend a lot of time together during the events of PROLEGOMENON, and Yua is a little more harsh when Jesse isn't there to taper her off.

Sofia Suaviter

Prior to the events of Episode 3, Yua doesn't have much of an opinion on Sofia Suaviter - she doesn't find bud to be disfavorable, but she doesn't really trust bud with any sense of responsibility. She finds bud to be kind of childish, and while bud is pretty funny and creative, bud's lack of true passion for life puts her off.

After Yua kills Sofia in Episode 3 to prevent the bombing of the Light, the friend group is divided over the event. Yua herself bears no ill will towards Sofia, though, despite what she did to bud - she understands why bud felt so desperate as to do that, and while she doesn't hold any guilt about it, she hopes bud eventually understands.

Albus

Yua is one of Albus' players, and although their interactions are rarely shown on screen, Yua does express a fascination with Albus and Olivia - though more on Albus, as they're more accessible to her. She asks them questions often about how the game functions, to which they answer to some degree. Yua enjoys poking at Albus too, causing them to get riled up.

On the PROLEGOMENON relationship chart, Albus is the only character that Yua has an arrow pointing towards, where she wonders what its secret is. After she becomes the vessel for the First Dawn, she gets an answer.

The Players

Being the latest addition to the group, Yua doesn't have much of a rapport with the other players in the game. Despite this, she takes the reins when the game first starts, guiding her friends through entering the world of Dodecastratum. She doesn't have much drama with other players, and she's closer to a couple than others, but her opinions on most are neutral.

Given the split caused by the events of Episode 3, while Yua's opinions on the other players don't change much - beyond some annoyance at being scolded for killing Sofia - she's aware that their opinions of her change, and she gives people space as relevant.

TRIVIA

Yua's perspective is not shown through the majority of PROLEGOMENON, due to her powers. When it finally is, she's revealed to have Dissociative Identity Disorder.

She is the secret third player who draws power from the Big U themself, the other two being Diego Suaviter and Dina Becher.

Yua talks like a hard-boiled detective from a noir film on purpose. She thinks it makes her sound interesting.
